NO 11
Acceding
to the Arjuna;s request the lord agree to show him his universal form. Mainly
this chapter deals with the detailed description of the Lord’s Universal Form.
Therefore, The chapter is entitled "The Vision of the cosmic Form
Yoga".

Uvacha

madanugrahaya paramam
guhyam adhyatmasangyitam
yat tvaya uktam vachah
tena moha ayam vigatahmam
Arjuna said, the
most secret knowledge and the discourse about the self which you have imparted
out of kindness towards me, has totally destroyed my delusion.

bhavapyayam hi bhutanam
shrutam vistarashah maya
tvattah kamalpatraksha
mahatman api cha ouyayam
Because O, Lotus
eyed (Krishna) you have disclosed to me details about the coming inti and
passing out of existence, of the beings, and also I have heard about your
Imperishable nature.

evam etat yatha atath
tvam atmanam parmeshwar
drustam icchami te rupam
aishwaryam purushottam.
O Supreme being, as
you have said yourself to be, so it is. But I still desire to witness your
splendid form, O Best among men (Krishna).

manyase yadi tat shakyam
maya dristum iti prabho
yogeshwar tatah me tvam
darshaya atmanam avyayam
O Lord, if you
think that it can be seen by me, then show me, your imperishable form, O Lord of
yogis (Krishna).

pashya me partha rupani
shatashah atha shahastrashah
nanavidhan divyani
nanavarna kritin cha
The blessed Lord
said : O, Partha (Arjun) looked at my forms a hundred and a thousand times, so
numerous and a thousand times, so numerous in kind, devine, of many colours and
shapes.

pasya adityan vasun
rudran ashwinau marutah tatha
bahuni adristapurvani pashya
ashcharyani bharat
O Bharata (Arjuna),
look at the Adityas, the Vasus, the Rudras and Ashwins duo and the maruts. See
these, never seem before wonders, O Arjuna.

ih ekastham jagat kritsnam
pashya adha sacharacharam
mama dehe gudakesha yat
cha anyat drustum icchasi.
O Gudakesha (Arjuna),
in my body here, look at the whole universe, moving and unmoving and whatsoever
else you wish to see, al gathered in my body.

na tu mam shakyase drutum
anena eva svachashusha
divyam dadami te chakshuh
pashya me yogam aishwaram
But you cannot see
me with this natural eyes you have, I shall grant you the divine eyes. You can
witness my divine power with its help.

mahayogeshwarah harih
darshayamas parthaya
parmam rupain aishwaram
Sanjaya said :
O King (Dhritarastra), after speaking in this way, Hari the Supreme Lord of yoga
revealed to Arjuna his Supreme and divine form.

pashyami devan tav deva dehe
sarvan tatha bhutavisheshsanghan
brahmanamisham kamalasanastha
rishin cha sarvan urgan cha divyan.

anekabahudarvaktranetram
pashyami tvam sarvatah
anantrapam, na antam na madhyam
napunah tava adim pashyami vishwesharar-vishvarupa.
O God of the
Universe, I see you in the infinite forms, with numerous arms, bellies faces and
eyes, but I do not see your end, neither your middle nor your beginning.

sanatanastvam purusho mato me
You are the
absolute knowable the imperishable and you are the ultimate shelter of this
world, you are the final guardian of the eternal laws and you are the ever
lasting person, so do I think.

svasti iti uktva maharashisiddhasanghah
stuvanti tvam statibhih puspakalabhih

rudradiyah vasavah ye cha sadhyah
vishve ashwinau marutah cha usmapahcha
gandharvayakshasur siddhasanghah
vikchante tvam vismitah cha eva carve

rupam mahat te bahuvaktranetram
mahabaho bahubahurupadam
bahudaram bahudanstrakaralam
dristva lokah pravyathitah tatha aham
O Mighty armed
(Krishna) looking at your many mouths and eyes and having many arms, thighs and
feet, many gellies, terrible with numerous tusks, the world is shivering with
fright and so do i.

dhritim na vindami shamam cha vishnau

sarve sah eva avanipalsanghaih
bhismah dronah sutputrahtatha asam
sah asmadiyaih api yodhamukhaih

vaktrani te trarmanah vishanti
danstrakaralani bhayankani
kechit vilagnah dashnamtareshu
sandrishyante churnitaih uttamangaih.

yatha madinam bahavah ambuvegah
samudram eva abhimukhah dravanti
tatha tavami narlokvira
vishanti vakranyabhivijvalanti

yatha pradiptam jwalanam patanga
vishanti nashaya samriddhavegah
tathaive nashaya vishanti lokah
tava api vaktrani samriddhavegah

lehihyase grasmanah samantat
lokan samgrah vadanaih jwaladbhih
tejobhih apurya jagat samagram
bhasah tava ugrah pratpanti vishnau
By gobbling all the
world into your blazing mouths, you lick them up from all sides. Your intense
rays lights up the whole world and heat it up by their fierce radiance.

na hi prajanam tava pravrittim

kalah asmi lokakshayakrita pravidhah
lokan samahavtum in pravrittah
brite api tvami na bhavishyanti sarve
ye avasthitah pratyanikeshu yodhah
The blessed Lord
said :
I am the time, world devouring grown aged, embarked upon now destroying the
worlds. All the warriors standing in the carmy of the enemies will not srive
even in your absence.

tasmat tvam uttista yashah labhasva
jitna shatrun bhunjaskshva rajyam samriddham
maya eva ite ninitah purvameva
nimittamatram bhava sabyasanchin

dronam cha bhismam cha jaidratham cha
kavnam tatha anyan api yodhaviran
maya hatan tvam jahima vyatisthah
yudhasva jetasi rane sapatnam
Sanjaya uvacha

etat shrutva vachanam kesavasya
kritanjalih vepamanah kiriti
namaskritva bhuyah eva ah krishnan
sagadgadam bhitbhitih pranamya
Sanjaya said :
After hearing these words of Keshava(Krishna), Arjuna (wearing a crown-kiriti)
with folded hands, trembling, bowed and prostating, with great fear spoke in a
tremulous voice to Krishna.
Arjuna uvacha

sthane hrishikesha tava prakirtya
jagat prahrisyati anurajyate cha
rakshansi bhitani disho dravanti
sarve namasyanti cha siddhasangha
·
kasmat cha te na nameram mahatman
gariyase brahmanahapi adikartre
anant devesh jagannivas
tvam aksharam sat asat tataparam yat
O Great Soul, you
are greater than Brahma, and are the original cause (of creation), why should
not they do praise you? O Lord of the gods and the shelter of the world, you are
the imperishable beyond being and non-being.

tvam adidevah purushah puranah
tvam asya vishvasya param nidhanam
vetta asi vedhyam cha param cha dham
tvaya tantam vishvam anantrupa
·
vayuh yamah agnih varunah shasankah
prajapatin tvam prapritamah cha
namah namah te astu sahstrakritvah
punah cha bhuyopi namah te
You are vayu (the
world), yame (the destroyer), Agni (the fire) Varuna (the god of sea) and
Shashanka (the moon), and prajapati (Brahma theLord of creation), the
grand-father of all. Thousands times I bow to you in salutation; and salutations
to you again and again.

namah purastat atha pristhatah
te namah astu te sarvatah
eva sarva anantuirya amitvikramah tvam
sarvam samaphosi tatah asi sarvah
·
sakha iti matva prasabham yat aktam
hey krishna hey yadava hey sakheti
ajanata mahimanam tavedam
maya pramadatpranayena vapi
Being ignorant of
your true nature and of your greatness, I have often spoken to you rashly,
thinking you to my companion, O Krishna, O Yadava, O Friend, due to my
negligence or through familiarity.

vihar saiyyashan bhojanesu
ikah athava api achyut tatsamksham
tat kshamaye tvam aham aprameyam

pita asi lokasya chara charasya
tvam asya pujyah cha guruh gariyan
na tvatsamah asti abhyadhikah kutah
lokatraye api apratimprabhav - amyah

tasmat pranamya pranidhaya kayam
prasadaye tvam ahamisham idyam
pita eva putrasya sakha eva sakhyuh
priyah priyayah arhasi deva sodhum

astapurram hrisitah asmi dristva
bhayena cha pravyathitam manah me
tadeva me darshaya devarupam
prasid devesh jagannivas
·
kiritinam gadinam drustam aham tatha eva
ichhami tvami drustam aham tatha eva
tena eva rupena chaturbhujena
shahastrabaho bhava vishnamurte
Shri bhagavan uvacha

maya prasannen tava arjuna idam
rupam param darsitam atmayogat
tejormayam vishwam anantam adhyam
yat me tvadanyena na dristapurvam
By my grace and by my divine power, O Arjuna, this supreme form was shown to
you, luminous, boundless, original, enveloping the world, no one ever witness it
before but you.

na vedayagyadhyayanaih na cha
kriyabhih na tapabhih ugraih
avamrupah sakyah aham nriloke
drustam tvadanyena kurupravira
·
ma te vyatha ma cha vimudhabhavah
drutva rupam ghoram idrik mam idam
vyapetbhih pritamanah punastvam
tadeva me rupamidam prapashya
Sanjaya uvacha
·
iti arjunam vasudevah tatha uktva
svakam rupam darsayamas bhuyah
ashwashyamas cha bhitam enam
bhutna punah saumyavapuh mahatma
O King (Dhritarastra) After speaking to Arjuna, in this manner his form and then
the Great one having acquired again the benign form, assured the terrified
Arjuna.
Arjuna uvacha

dritva idam manusam rupam
tava saumyam janardana
idenim asmi samvrittah
sachetah prakritim gatah
O Janardana, looking at your benign human form, now I have become peaceful in
mind and am returned to my nature.
Shri Bhagavn uvacha
·
sudurdarsham idam rupam
istavanasi yat mam
devah api asya rupasya
nityam darshankanchhinah
This form of mine is indeed very rare to see, which you have seen. Even gods are
ever keen to witness this form.

na aham vaideh na tapasah
na danena na cha ijjaya
shakyah evamridhih drustam
dristavanasi mam yatha
·
bhaktva tu ananya shakyah
aham enambidhih arjuna
gyatam dristum cha tattvena
praveshtum cha paramtap
·
matkarmakrita matparamah
madbhaktah sangavarjitah
nirvairah sarvabhutesu yah
sah mam eti pandava
He
who works only for me, sees me as his only goal, who worships me without
desires, who is free from animosity to all beings, he comes to me, O Pandava (Arjuna).
